***The extra rehearsals and later pick-up times are to assist us with more quickly completing the learning of our holiday repertoire!  We are a little behind and need all of the extra time we can get!  If your child will not be able to make one of these extended times, he or she will not be penalized in attendance.  However, if at all possible, please make every effort to have your child here for every minute of rehearsal this week and the week after Thanksgiving!

Field Trip:

Look for information about our December field trip the week we return from Thanksgiving.  If you’re interested in being a chaperone and already have a background check on file with KISD for the 2009-2010 school year, please contact me via e-mail to let me know of your interest!

Kudos!

I was very proud of your children in last week’s concert!  Thank you for your kind words regarding our performance, and thank you for your tireless support of the music program at TMIS!

Choir Attire:

Do you have your child’s choir attire for next week’s concert yet?  If not, please prioritize that for this week!  Should you have questions about appropriate choir attire, please see the choir handbook tab at the top of the page.

Choir Shirts:

We had a few glitches in ordering choir shirts this year.  However, the polo shirts have been ordered and are promised to arrive on Monday, November 9.  Choir shirts will be delivered to your child’s homeroom teacher on Tuesday morning, November 10.  Students should NOT wear their shirts during the school day on Tuesday.  Rather, they should wait to wear them until after they have showered for the concert on Tuesday evening :)

We anticipate the long sleeve t-shirts being ordered in the next several weeks.

Next Tuesday’s Concert:

Please follow these guidelines for the 11/10 concert at Timber Creek High School:

  • Official choir attire is expected to be worn by every chorister.
  • 5:30 P.M. Choristers rehearse on the stage of TCHS.
  • 6:00 P.M.  Pizza will be served to TMIS choristers (courtesy of TCHS Choir)
  • 6:40 P.M. Auditorium doors open for choir parents.  I suggest arriving early, as we are expecting a large crowd for this concert!

6th Grade Choir Practice on Tuesday 11/10:

6th grade WILL rehearse on Tuesday afternoon before the concert.  However, we will dismiss at 3:45 to allow for students to get home and do homework and take a shower before the evening concert.  Please note the earlier dismissal time on your family calendar!

Thank you for being such wonderful choir families!  I enjoy serving you and your children through the musical arts!

Choir Announcements 10/23/09

Thank you for a wonderful choir camp last weekend!  Our choiristers worked SO hard and accomplished many goals in preparation for our Holiday Concert in December!

“Choir Attire” Reminder:  If you have not begun looking for the black pants, shoes, belt, and socks for your child’s choir attire, please begin doing so soon!  He or she will need it in the next few weeks!  If you have questions about choir attire, please refer to our online handbook.

Choir Tuition:

If you are on the monthly choir tuition plan, your next payment of $28 is due no later than Monday, November 2.  Please remember to include a yellow payment coupon with your check so that I can give the appropriate chorister credit for payment!

CHS Voices of Central Show-Choir Camp:

This is an OPTIONAL extra-curricular opportunity for your child to participate in a fun choral experience with high school show choir students in our district.  All pertinent information is in a flyer attached to today’s parent e-mail for choir students.  A few special notes:

  • There is a $30 fee for this special activity.
  • All registrations and associated monies should be sent DIRECTLY to CHS Choral Department.
  • If you have any questions, please contact the choir directors at Central High School:  Leigh Ann McClure and Jennifer Randall.
  • I will not be able to attend this activity.  However, I can assure you that this will be a wonderful experience for your child if he or she chooses to participate!  Many of our choristers have participated in years past and had a terrific time!

I am grateful for your continued support of the choral program at TMIS.  Your family is a blessing!

  • If you haven’t started thinking about gathering your child’s choir attire, please do so soon!  He or she will need it by the beginning of November.
  • It is NOT necessary to purchase expensive name-brand clothing/shoes for choir attire.  I suggest thinking in terms of Wal-Mart, Target, or other bargain retailer for choir attire.
  • If you have forgotten what “choir attire” includes, please refer to the “choir handbook” link at the top of the page.

Choir Tuition:

  • First tuition installment was due on Thursday, 10/1.  If you have not paid your first installment, please do so immediately.

Choir Camp (10/17/09)

This will be an intense, but fun day of singing and team building for our choir students!  Except in the case of illness, please be SURE to have your child at choir camp on Saturday, 10/17.  Keep the following in mind:

  1. Attendance for choristers is expected.  Absences (except in the case of illness) will be counted.
  2. 5th Grade Camp is from 12-4 (pizza lunch served at 12!)
  3. 6th Grade Camp is from 9-1 (pizza lunch served at 12!)
  4. Students should enter the building at the cafeteria side door on Saturday.
  5. Choristers should dress comfortably for the day (and wear tennis shoes).

Rainy Weather Dismissal Procedures for Choir:

If it is raining when honor choir lets out, please plan to come into the building to pick your child up.  Children will not wait outside for parents if it is raining.  We will release to the hallway outside of the music room, and you may meet your child there (hopefully with an umbrella!).

*Important*:  If it is lightning at dismissal time, I am not allowed to dismiss children outdoors without a parent or guardian (per KISD policy).  You must come into the building to get your child.  (This procedure is the same as if you are picking your child up from the end of the school day & it is lightning outside.)

Choir Tuition DUE!

Choir Tuition was due last Thursday, October 1.  A HUGE thank you to all of the parents who already sent in their child’s tuition!  If you have not paid your first installment of choir tuition, please do so as soon as possible.  The next tuition installment is due on Monday, November 2 (if you are on the 6 payment plan).

Thank you for being such supportive choir parents!  It is a joy to teach your children; thank you for allowing me to partner with your family in your child’s music education!

Check E-mail for important announcement! (also posted below!)

Yesterday evening, I learned that, if at all possible, the date for our feeder pattern concert with TCHS needs to be changed to Tuesday, November 10.  If we change this concert date, this is what the revised schedule would look like for the week of November 9:

Tuesday, November 10:  6th Grade Choir Rehearsal after school

TCHS Feeder Pattern Concert (approx. 7 p.m.)

Wednesday, November 11:  NO 5th Grade Choir Rehearsal

Thursday, November 12:  5th Grade Choir Rehearsal after school (on normal practice day)

Please send a reply to this e-mail with either “Yes” or “No” and your child’s name in the subject line to let me know if this new schedule would work for your family.  I need your response by 10:00 a.m. on Thursday (tomorrow).

Please do not change your family’s calendar until you hear from me again.  Many thanks for your help!
